In 1999, N.W.A came together and recorded a new song together with Snoop Dogg. “Chin Check” showed a new strength of the group and Dr. Dre as a producer. But nothing came out of it back then, and Ice Cube knows why.
Talking to Bootleg Kev about working with Dr. Dre on Mount Westmore’s new album, veteran rappers mentioned that they have Dr. Dre on it, on some intros. In future, they believe. Dre will get involved more. It made a host ask about those songs N.W.A recorded after Eazy-E death. It was a big deal for them to come together after the turmoil that had torn the group apart and to invite Snoop Dogg to join. The result was impressive and even sparked hope for their revival. So now Kev wants to know how close they were to actually make a new album together. Apparently, the audience was too quick to dream, and Ice Cube’s answer was:
Not close at all. We were about to get into it and then he met Eminem and then he met 50 [Cent]. He met those two dudes and that just took his attention.
Cube was smiling, so obviously, he didn’t mean to blame anyone. Life just goes its way, and some things do not happen when we expect them. But they can still happen when you wait. So now, says E-40, Dr. Dre might put some work into Mount Westmore’s projects:
Dre is a genius. Hopefully, we get something out of him.
Ice Cube agrees and he has more than just a hunch. He actually sees what the Good Doctor is working on:
We will now get something out of Dre. He has been sending me a lot of music.
Too $hort is even more open about Dre’s involvement:
He was an early-on Mount Westmore supporter. He caught wind of the project early through Snoop. He pulled up to the Snoop studio. He put a stamp of approval on it. He jumped on a song!
Here Ice Cube have to call everybody to cool down:
We got a song with him but it didn’t make this album.
Will it be on their next album? Too $hort nods in confirmation.
