When Em returned his part for “Animals Pt.1,” JID wasn’t ready for just how hard he went.
JID recently stopped by Capital Xtra to talk about his recent collab with Eminem, “Animals Pt.1”, and gave a bit of insight into how the track came together, and how Em delivered a lot more than expected:
“I go. He goes. I was like, damn, bro, you rapped a long time”, JID said, describing the record as a “cold plunge”. The Dreamville rapper explained that he kicked things off by sending the beat over to Eminem. Once Em replied with his verse, JID decided to tighten up his own part and added some fresh bars to balance it out.
“It was fairly simple”, he added. “Bro’s amazing. And it’s great to have mixtape Em. [Usually] he’s caught up on albums and all this stuff. It’s good to have it freer, in a different realm of hearing an older artist on his greatness, still. Super respect for him giving me the opportunity”.
“Animals Pt.1” marked their second collaboration following “Fuel” on The Death of Slim Shady. And this one, arguably, features one of Em’s sharpest verses in recent memory: wordplay-heavy, unpredictable, and unbridled.
