Journalists have obtained a police report on the incident and a 911 phone call recording but they are heavily redacted and leave many questions without an answer.
After a gossip sheet reported that in April Marshall discovered an intruder in his own home in the middle of the night, a local newspaper requested more information from Clinton Township Police Department, where the incident took place.
The request was fulfilled but the information was heavily redacted out of safety concerns for a victim and witness, stated police.
Out of 3-minute, 17-second recording of the emergency call, it was only possible to hear an unidentified woman reporting a break-in and saying a person was being taken into custody by “security”. “The Detroit News” quotes her: “They are getting the guy”, apparently, the last beat that was not intentionally made inaudible.
The information in the incident report was also scarce. It states that police were dispatched to the address on a breaking and entering in progress. A suspect, Matthew David Hughes, 27, did not tell police his name and when asked what he was doing at the home, he “mumbled the word ‘friend.’” Hughes then told police he “lived down the street” but would not say where.
At the moment Hughes is in the Macomb County Jail, awaiting a June 29 competency hearing.
