Turns out Eminem is not just a golf heckler in “Happy Gilmore 2”, he is family.
Eminem’s cameo in the movie is short, wild, and full of unexpected callbacks because he is not there for the punchlines. He plays the son of a heckler, Happy’s nemesis from the 1996 original. Joe Flaherty played this part that was so small that it didn’t even warrant his character a name, so he was credited as Jeering Fan. But the energy Flaherty brought to the role made it unforgettable. The actor passed away in 2024, and Eminem’s role became a tribute to Joe.
The first hint is in the ugly bucket hat Em’s character is wearing. And the reveal comes mid-scene as Em lets loose a classic Donald-style heckle and shouts “jackass!” in Gilmore’s face, just like his dad did nearly 30 years ago.
Marshall fully embraced the movie’s slapstick chaos, throwing himself into the absurdity with full Shady flair. His too-short scene is loaded with nods to classic Slim Shady moments from the prosthetic ass peeking over his waistband (a clear wink to the fake butt from “The Real Slim Shady” video) to screaming “I don’t give a fuck!” while being mauled by alligators. Sure, the phrase is not unique, but coming from the man who made it his catchphrase, built a song around it (“Just Don’t Give a Fuck” from “Just Don’t Give a Fuck” EP), then doubled down with “Still Don’t Give a Fuck”, it does not sound random. In the middle of all the cartoon violence, it is pure Shady.
And just when you think it is over, comes a surprise twist: Em’s character is reunited with his dad, Chubbs, in heaven. But this is Shady we are talking about. Even in the afterlife, he flips off the camera without missing a beat.
