Jelly Roll was already having the night of his life — then Eminem walked out and took it to another level.
The sold-out show at Ford Field on Sunday night had one massive surprise in store — and it was not Post Malone, who was the official headliner. With 47,000 fans already on their feet, Jelly Roll closed out his “supporting” set with a genre-jumping medley that included Lynyrd Skynyrd, DMX, Miley, and more. But it was his take on Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” that triggered the night’s biggest moment.
As the beat dropped and Jelly began his version of the 8 Mile anthem, fans noticed him glancing toward stage right — and that is when Eminem himself walked out to a deafening roar. He jumped in for the second verse and stayed through the chorus, joining Jelly Roll at the edge of the runway while the crowd lost its mind.
It is not the first time Eminem has done something like this; the most recent surprise appearance included joining 50 Cent and Ed Sheeran during their Michigan shows, but this one is different. Jelly Roll, a lifelong Eminem fan, has been vocal about what Em’s music means to him. The two met for the first time last year at the Michigan Central Station concert, and it has been mutual respect ever since. And an emotional collaboration on “Somebody Save Me” from “The Death of Slim Shady”.
After the cameo, a stunned and overjoyed Jelly Roll called it “the greatest show of my life”. A high bar, but hard to argue when Slim Shady just crashed your set in your favourite city.
