A year ago, on March 14th 2025, Elliot Marshall Mathers came into this world, bringing joy to all his extended family. Eminem’s fans around the world quietly celebrated the event, something that younger Marshall thought would never happen.

Looking Back
The first birthday is a special time, marking a big change. Hailie has been reflective for weeks leading up to the actual birthday. The video she posted on her Instagram account showed he going through Elliot’s old onesies, getting ready to celebrate his birthday, and being overcome with emotions. “How did time feel so slow at some points, but go so fast?” she wrote in the caption. And this is one of the main lessons motherhood gave Hailie in the first year.
Life Lessons
The latest episode of her podcast reflects this exact line of thought: “Elliot’s First Year: What Motherhood Taught Me”. Hailie talks about the sensation of fleeting time, when change feels massive in retrospect. Even more so, she realised how important her presence is for a child. Before, she heard the saying “Your baby doesn’t need to be perfect; it just needs you”. Now, she feels it and knows it’s true. It resonates with her deeply, Hailie says, remembering how hard she was on herself in the beginning. “I tried to make everything perfect”, she recalls. “But that’s just not the reality, and it also just doesn’t matter. And in the end of the days, babies don’t care. They just need you”.
And another one, which may not sound that profound but is no less important for a young mom, is that sleep changes constantly. Hailie just felt it again, with renewed force, after moving baby Em out to his own room. And finally, mother’s superstrength. Hailie knows from experience now that mothers are more capable than they used to think. Well done on being a supermom!
Party Boy
We already know that Hailie had been getting ready for Elliot’s birthday party for weeks. Not just a banner from old onesies and pastel balloons; the parents had the whole of Elliot’s Pizzeria going for a celebration. All because he was born on a π day, 3.14. He might be entitled to a free slice of pizza later in life, but for now, it’s his parents who would set him up with a treat. And also, Elliot was supposed to get his first taste of cake on his birthday!
To add even more fun to the celebration, Brittaney insisted on taking Elliot to the Rainforest Cafe, a jungle-themed restaurant chain full of tropical flora and animatronic animals. According to Hailie, it was marine life that captured Elliot’s attention. She thinks the cause might be his first ever Disney movie he watched recently – Finding Nemo.
Hailie shared these touching details and a couple of photos on her Instagram account, letting fans in on some intimate moments of their family life while at the same time preserving Elliot’s privacy and her family’s peace.
