The favourite topic of discussions on VladTV is Eminem, it is been established earlier. And Nick Cannon is one of the most productive contributors to a discussion, as was proved again during his latest appearance.

Apparently, Nick Cannon quite enthusiastic about Eminem’s lines on “Lord Above” as he somehow thinks that they confirm his prowess.

He admitted that I was gonna whoop his ass! He admitted! Who else was going kick his ass?! I went looking for that motherfucker! I went to Detroit. He don’t live in Detroit. He don’t live nowhere new 7th or 8th mile. He lives in Michigan, and rightly so. He was supposed to come up and I believe that was BET Awards. I was managed by Chris Lightly musically at that time, so was Mariah. And Chris was managing 50, he was talking with Paul all the time. So that’s a lot of conversation going on. This is again a decade ago, over a decade ago. And everybody knew how serious I was, I was there to defend my wife. I don’t give a fuck about no lyrics. You said some disrespectful shit about my wife and I’m going to beat your ass. That was my mentality in 2009, 10, 8, whatever year that was… And at that time Emanual Steward, god rest his soul, one of the greatest boxing trainers ever, was working with Em ‘cause I think Em was supposed to do that boxing movie that Jake Gyllenhaal did. So he was training and I was at a fight that time, box and all that stuff. So I was like, “Set it up! Whatever! All money goes to charity! You know I’ll do this!”. That’s all I wanted. Real talk, I wanted to match whatever energy he was on. I knew I ain’t gonna out-rap that motherfucker, but I was like yo, if you really got a problem with me or my wife, you’re talking this shit, you gotta have… I feel like people can say whatever they want to say in life, but you gotta be able to deal with the consequences that come with your mouth. That’s it!

Vlad: To be fair, people like Eminem, you or me, for that matter, we all have security around us. No one’s gonna allow a fistfight. Someone is gonna get shot in the process.

Naaaah, that wasn’t… I was not on some sort of erratic fancy. I was like, “Let’s have a conversation. You disrespect my…” I had this conversation with Howard Stern, a very man-to-man conversation. ‘Cause me and Howard Stern, at first we were rivals. I was on his radio station, he was our star, he said some disrespectful shit about Mariah, then he found out I was on the radio he started going at her, I was like “’ma do! See me”. We can have a conversation and whatever that escalates to… But I’m an intelligent man, let’s first have this conversation. But know that if you disrespect anyone in my family in my face – it’s happening, it’s going to turn physical. I didn’t have to get that because Howard Stern is a wise man: sat down, dinner, me, Mariah. Howard, “I’m sorry, I was immature, yadda-yadda”, moved on. I was expecting some of the same things with…

Vlad: Wait a minute, Howard Stern apologised to you and Mariah in person?

AB-SO-LUTE-LY! And now Howard Stern is not only one of my closest of “friends” or associates in the industry, but a mentor, someone I call when I need help, and first of all Howard Stern was in his 60s, let’s go there! But at that time he was saying some white, some same level shit Eminem was saying. And this is the root of the problem. You know, I’m all for the jokes, all for the competition in the hip-hop, but there is a mentality, it goes all the way back to the slave codes, when the slave codes were established. There was practices that the slave master, the oppressor would rape a black woman and make her husband stand there and watch. And he couldn’t do anything about it, if he did anything about it he was dead, it was illegal. So I’m supposed to stand here in 2008/2009 and let this white man disrespect my wife, a woman of colour, whatever you wanna believe her colour is, ‘cause it’s whole another debate. “She ain’t even black”! Her birth daddy is blacker than me, he’s from Harlem, but we ain’t gonna get into that. Whatever you believe, that’s a woman of colour and I’m not supposed to do nothing? And then I got my entire community be like, “Man, let that shit go”. Fuck outta here, let that go?! Would you let that go if that was your wife? Would you let that go if that was the mother of your children? This man is gonna sit there and laugh at your face because he could rhyme some words together? I’m beating his ass! Or he’s gonna say, “You know what, I didn’t see it that way, Nick. You know what, I didn’t think it goes all the way back. I see where you’re coming from, man, because not only that I hurt you but I hurt an entire community based off of my anger and therefore now I can project this and continue to see little boys and girls of colour have to deal with this racial institutionalisation that “Oh, white man can say whatever he wants to say when he’s angry and there is no repercussions behind it”. No! You gonna see some repercussions, it’s gonna happen!

Admittedly, that’s heavy stuff to discuss and it should not be discarded. But is Eminem really the root of racial issues? Why Nick is offended on behalf of the community that is begging him to calm down and stop making a joke of these issues? And was he really wanted Eminem to become his “friend” the same way Howard Stern did, so now he cannot take the rejection?
