Big Daddy Kane tells how he felt seeing Eminem’s tribute in the recent music video with LL Cool J.
The legendary hip hop duo Kid ‘n Play recently welcomed an iconic guest on their Fun House Podcast — none other than the rap legend Big Daddy Kane. The episode was packed with stories, insights, and a conversation that also touched on Eminem’s recent homage to Kane, which has caught the attention of hip hop fans everywhere.
During the podcast, Kane opened up about Eminem recreating the classic “Long Live the Kane” album cover in the music video for his latest collaboration with LL Cool J on the track “Murdergram Deux”. For longtime hip hop heads, the tribute was a nod to Kane’s lasting influence on the genre, and Kane himself couldn’t have been more touched.
Kid shared how he’s always known about Eminem’s respect for Kane:
I did know that he was a really big fan of yours. I’ve seen that over the years. He’s been very vocal about that and about the MCs that influenced him, that he loves and reveres. And you’re definitely one of them. So, it doesn’t surprise me. When you see that, not just the music but the imagery, and to know you were incorporated into that, what’s the feeling?
Kane reflected on how much the gesture meant to him:
I was amazed. Em is a good dude, always showed me love, but for him to do the reenactment of the “Long Live the Kane” cover and to mention my name was beautiful. He introduces me to a younger fan base. I thought it was beautiful.
Play also jumped in, asking if Kane knew about the homage beforehand:
Did you know about it beforehand or just run across it? How did you find out about it?
Kane laughed, explaining that LL Cool J gave him a heads-up but left out the details:
L told me. L said, ‘Wait till you see. You’re going to be amazed. You gonna love what we did.’ That’s all. I didn’t know that it was gonna be something.
Eminem’s tribute was not just a nod to Kane’s influence — it was a way of bringing hip hop history to a new generation of fans. And with legends like Big Daddy Kane, Kid’ n Play, and LL Cool J still making an impact, the culture continues to thrive.
If you have not seen the video for “Murdergram Deux”, keep an eye out for the epic “Long Live the Kane” reference — it is a powerful reminder of the bridges between generations in hip hop.
