Leo’s taste in music is broader than most might expect, but it was Eminem who helped him and Daniel Day-Lewis get into character for Gangs of New York.

Far Out magazine published an overview of DiCaprio’s music taste, tracing the hints scattered across the interviews of his and his counterparts, to establish that the broad range of his music curiosity has one solid foundation: hip hop.

DiCaprio once revealed that his musical loves range from early jazz and blues to modern rap. He has praised Kendrick Lamar and 2 Chainz, counts BTS’s “Blood, Sweat & Tears” as a favourite, and is a fan of Atlanta rapper J.I.D., who named two mixtapes after the actor. His affinity to Eminem’s music is even more tangible, as suggested by the story from the set of Gangs of New York, where Leo and Daniel Day-Lewis would listen to Eminem’s “The Way I Am” while preparing for their intense roles in Martin Scorsese’s bloody epic.

Just a reminder that behind the Oscar-winning performances and environmental activism, DiCaprio’s soundtrack is as varied as his career, with Slim Shady playing a part in it.
