Young Filipino-American artist recently signed by Shady Records was dreaming about seeing Eminem’s live show, not recording a song with him. But impossible has become real for him.
Ez Mil appeared recently on the CNN Philippines’ programme New Day and talked about his deal, a single with Eminem, and the album that drops this Friday. He feels relieved that the period of secrecy about his relationship with Shady Records/Aftermath/Interscope is over.
It’s a breath of fresh air to be able to converse about it because it’s been a long kept secret.
How did it all come together?
Through emails. We thought at first it was a joke. It had to be our people at Virgin to give us a nudge, like, yo, we gonna have the secret meeting. It all went from there. We were just working, just going about our days. I was working on songs. That’s why I had the beat for “Realest” ready and I just made sure I brought that. Until the moment I met them and they said they loved “Up Down”. That’s what, as Eminem said, caught his attention. When I showed them the “Realest” Dre said, “Yeah, Em’s gonna eat that up”. In that moment I had a feeling Em would really snap on it. And he did.
A host wanders what waits for him in future? The Shady Records signee expects not fame, success, and bags of money but more work and more music. Three labels working for him open so many doors for a young musician and he is ready to explore them all.
