Eminem’s name kept coming up for a cameo in “Happy Gilmore 2”, and even Sandler had to admit: it was just too good to pass up.
Adam Sandler said he usually feels bad about calling people up to ask them to drop everything and work on one of his projects. But when it came to a role in “Happy Gilmore 2”, he knew exactly who could nail it: Eminem.
“I love Eminem. I’m friends with Eminem. But I don’t wanna bother the man”, Sandler told The Dan Patrick Show. “And everybody kept saying, Man, Eminem would be so funny in this part!.. And I was like, I don’t want to ruin this guy’s time. He’s hanging out, he’s in Detroit, he’s doing his life, making records. But it certainly would be funny if he did it”.
Eventually, Sandler gave up. “Alright, let me bug Marshall. I gave him a call and said, ‘Dude, I know it’s a pain in the ass, but it’s pretty funny. Could you shoot with us for a day?’ And he was like, ‘Yeah, yeah, send me the stuff’”.
It would not be their first time working together. Em had a cameo in “Funny People”, and the two first met at a Saturday Night Live afterparty. “He walked by our table and just said, ‘Bobby Boucher’”, Sandler recalled, mimicking Eminem pronouncing his Waterboy character name. “We became friends after that”.
This friendship certainly came in handy when Adam needed a big name and robust comedy skills for his new project.
