Melle Mel’s embarrassing Eminem diss evoked a reaction from Fat Joe. The New York hip hop veteran is tired to see how hip hop pioneers get themselves into trouble for no reason and has an important message for them.

He shared it during his live stream, talking about how their disconnect from a real life prevents them from staying successful:

The old school, sometimes they stand in the way of themselves. Now I see Melle Mel wants to battle Eminem. Oh my God, this is out of control. Yo, Melle Mel, he’s my OG. He’s the guy I look up to. But Mel!.. Okay, they’re gonna do whatever they wanna do.

Sometimes, unfortunately, our pioneers stand in the way of their own bag. I do not know why. I have spoken to them over and over again. I’m doing just fine, guys. I’m doing just fine. But I would not be here if it wasn’t for our pioneers. So, sometimes, when I can talk to them I sit down and be like, yo, you can’t get the bag doing this, and this, and that. You know, weve got a pioneer… I don’t even think I should tell a story… But! I’ve seen situations, horrible situations…

I’ll tell you one story. There was one pioneer, who was getting a block named after him. The say before, say, they were doing it on Friday, I was there, Cardi B, everybody you name was there. On Thirsday, he said he wanted 50 cash in the bag. To New York City, to the fucking mayor and all that! If he don’t get 50 cash he’s not showing up.Well, guess what. The next day they showed up with a new sign that said Hip Hop Boulevard, or Hip Hop Way.And he had a block that was going to be named after him!

So you block your blessings! Too much. We don’t love you! We over-love you! We worship you! So listen, my pioneers, my legends, don’t block your blessings! Get to the bag. I want you all to get to the bag. Hip hop is one thing. We don’t have the union. We don’t have a situation where we take care of our pioneers. And they deserve it. Because we wouldn’t have it if it was not for them.

You bet, Fat Joe has seen even worse situations. But often false pride stops people from admitting their mistakes and learning. It is easier for them to blame somebody more successful in their own flaws and missteps.
