Cudi’s collaboration with Eminem “The Adventures of Moon Man And Slim Shady”, one of the best tracks of 2020, came to live because Kid Cudi cried for help on Twitter.

There was plenty of speculations about that tweet back in the days and apparently, it was indeed the simplest, but the most unlikely story about two stars connecting over social media to record a gem.

Cudi told this story to Zane Lowe on Apple Music’s Beats 1. He explained that he wanted to demonstrate his prowess as a lyricist and wanted a serious challenge that could elevate his abilities. Nd this train of thoughts took him to the most obvious but the most difficult of answers:

“Yo, I wanna be respected as an MC, yo, who do I fucking get? Who do I fucking spar with? Who do I go bar-for-bar with? Eminem!” I tweeted at him. […] It was not even in the DMs, it was my timeline. It was public. I was like, “Yo Rap God, help!” And we are really close with Paul Rosenberg, and he was able to connect us, and we were able to get it done. He was in Detroit, I was in LA. It was a nail-biter ‘cause I’m like waiting, I’m waiting. And I’m like, “Holy shit”. And they are asking me questions. They do not say he is gonna do it just yet. They are just asking me questions. And I am like, “This means he is gonna do it, right? ‘Cause you are asking me questions”. And literally, it was like every day I was like, “Is today gonna be the day? Is today gonna be the day?” And I got it, and I was like, “Holy shit”.
It was something for me to get the validation from Eminem by doing that record. Him doing that record let me know like he was telling me like, “Yo, I fuck with you as an artist. Fully. Even your bars are dope”.
