South Korean rapper, songwriter and record producer Agust D, who also goes by Suga when he acts as a member of k-pop success story BTS, revealed that the first CD he had ever bought was one of Eminem albums.

The question came up during the recent band’s appearance on the Jimmy Fallon show. The host also wanted to know how Suga’s parents reacted to this choice of music. The artist confirmed that indeed, the first album he bought was Eminem CD, and the language barrier kept his parents safe from exposure to the meaning of Marshall’s lyrics and hence from forbidding his music in their house:

It was about fifteen or sixteen years ago, and I really loved his music. Translations for the lyrics weren’t available back then, so I really couldn’t understand what the lyrics were about. So apparently, my parents were okay with it because they could not understand what the lyrics were saying. So they said it was okay.

Earlier this year, another BTS artist, RM, revealed how Eminem got him into American hip hop of the golden era. Really, Marshall’s outreach and influence over music across the world is incredible.
