In an unexpected gesture of defiance, Machine Gun Kelly declares that he is going back to rapping to discover a new hip hop sound.
MGK sat down with Audacy to talk about everything that is going on in his eventful life and finished by announcing that the next chapter for him is going to be, in fact, a revision.
The pink-haired ex-rapper believes that he has discovered a new guitar sound in pop-punk, and there is nothing more for him to do in rock. It’s time to come back to rap. Not once MGK mentioned the reason he retrieved from hip hop. Namely, his short-lived beef with Eminem that left him burnt to ashes. On the contrary, he repeatedly emphasised that he had nothing to prove and would only do it for himself:
For myself, I am going to make a rap album. For myself. For no other reason, no point to prove, no chip on my shoulder. If I keep doing things to prove things to people, I am going to, one, drive myself crazy and, two, not make a good product. I made “Tickets” and “Mainstream Sellout” because I wanted to make them. I need to now also make people miss that sound. I’m gonna do this tour, and I’m gonna step into where I left, “Hotel Diablo”, and expand on my storytelling as a rapper and find a new innovative sound for the hip hop Machine Gun Kelly. That is where my excitement is, and that’s where me, as a music archaeologist, want to explore.
Looking at recent MGK’s pop albums, do you expect him to record some kind of bubblegum rap now?
