On Complex’s GOAT Talk, Ed Sheeran and Barry Keoghan got into rap history and ended up deep in Shady/Aftermath territory.
Barry went straight for 50 Cent’s “Get Rich or Die Tryin’”, and Ed lit up with a story about playing it for his dad in Italy.
Beer in hand, sun on his back, Ed found himself explaining the brilliance of “If I Can’t”: “It’s not a full eight-bar chorus, it’s six bars”, he told his dad, breaking down why the hook worked and rapping it on the spot. “This is genius!”
Ed also shouted out Eminem’s “Marshall Mathers LP”, The Game’s “The Documentary”, and Dr. Dre’s “2001” as albums he can spin anywhere. But when it came to choosing GOAT rappers, both he and Barry leaned closer to home, saying they connect more with UK artists these days.
But, admitted Ed and Barry both, “You put on ‘Get Rich Or Die Tryin’ – you can relate to that”.
