To push back against unfriendly remarks, MGK did not find anything better than to use a quote from Eminem. Without naming a source, of course.

Live teaches MGK not to pick up fights with people bigger than him. The confrontation with Eminem forced the blonde performer out of rap; a jab at Corey Taylor resulted in MGK’s public humiliation. A quick glance at Kelly’s Twitter feed shows that he tries to be more careful with words now. He still can be annoyed at how he is perceived outside of his tight fan circle, but he is not naming names or getting openly confrontational on main. His weapon of choice is vague-posting. But the most recent subtle jab that MGK decided to send to the world draws special attention as it is a direct quote from “The Way I Am”:

Was it that MGK could not find better words to send towards his opponent? Or was it a minute of weakness when nostalgia overcame Kelly and made him quote a rapper he used to admire? Either way, it does not add to the image of a fierce and independent minded star MGK tries to build.

Still, what did make him reach for this Eminem’s line that is indeed a perfect response to haters projecting their fantasies on an artist? Most probably, it is Kelly’s reaction to Corey Taylor’s recent remarks at the ShipRocked Festival cruise. The Slipknot frontman recapped the tension between him and MGK but reminded that his main issue with MGK is Kelly’s arrogance and lack of respect to the genre he is trying to make his home. Taylor’s harshest remarks in the past were provoked not by MGK spinning the false narrative about their failed collaboration but Kelly’s misunderstanding of what is important in rock music:

He goes off on this fucking rant about rock stars and comfortable shoes. It sounds as smart as you think it is. Spit’s coming out of his face. I’m watching it, and I’m going, you fuck. You’ve been here for five minutes, basically. And you’re gonna run your mouth about bands that have been doing it for 20 years? In the mud, in the dirt. They’re gonna wear whatever the fuck they want. You’re gonna walk in here with your black tongue and trying to talk some shit on some bands that would circle your ass? Fuck you, dude! So when I had my opportunity to say something — I did. And I didn’t call him out. I just said what I said about people failing in one genre and then sliding over to another. And that upset him. But he didn’t say anything until, weirdly, we are in Chicago on the same show, and we are playing basically at the same time. He wasn’t happy that there were a lot of people in our show. And I do mean A LOT. But he until day maintains that I started it. But the only thing I said is, you don’t get to walk into the genre with the history. And the fact that this genre really doesn’t get the fucking respect that it deserves. You don’t get to walk in as some weird substitute teacher and pretend like you can tell us what to wear — boots, shoes, shoes, slippers. How about you suck every inch of my dick? You don’t get to do that. And these are bands that maybe I don’t even know, but guess what? I respect them because they get on stage, and they give every fucking thing they’ve got.
