With all that experience behind his back, Eminem could just grumble about how plain and mere new school rappers are. Nevertheless he cannot but dignify proficiency of some individuals who push the culture forward.
In the course of an earnest conversation with Crook, Eminem admitted being anxious on a song with such wordsmiths like Royce da 5’9″ and KXNG Crooked himself. That nerve-racking feeling comes from the understanding that while making a collab he’s gotta push the pen.
To once again prove his interest in modern flow patterns and tricks young rappers like DaBaby use, Marshall pinpointed Kendrick Lamar’s lyrical dexterity and unpredictable rhyming schemes:
Crook: “I always wanted to know, what’s your perspective on people with longevity, such as yourself, adjusting to the new era of hip-hop, you know what I’m saying?”
Em: “Yeah, you know, that’s another one of the things that make it fun, too, is being able to watch Cole and Kendrick come up, and seeing how great they were right off the bat. […] I don’t know, I can’t predict [a] flow pattern, I can’t never predict anything, it’s the same thing getting on a track with Kendrick. I can never tell what the fuck he’s gonna do. Cause he is such a chameleon of styles, and he can fucking do pretty much anything, right, and he’s so proficient at it, he’s so good at it, and you don’t know what you’re gonna get. That, to me, is like a top-tier lyricist, because it’s like, you can get your ass kicked any day”.
Later on Eminem expanded his well-known “Till I Collapse” Top-9 list of rappers adding up Kendrick Lamar and Joe Cole to them.
