But when rappers make these lists they base them on their experience and understanding of the craft, that is why Crook asked:

Is your Top 9 that you named on “Till I Collapse” still the same?

Yes and no. Well, what’s happened since then it’s like twenty years, rap evolves. You gotta put J. Cole and Kendrick on that list, and Joyner, because those are the guys who really care about the craft.

Marshall later gets back to this topic adding that in its core the list is the same:

I feel like all the rappers I set on that list will never change. I don’t know about the order, I don’t even know if I should’ve put it in the order like that. Sometimes you do things and it fits in your rhyme scheme. We talk about people who push the boundaries.
