Eben Britton, who co-hosts Hotboxn’ podcast with Tyson, asked Marshall about his surprise appearance at the Oscars ceremony where he performed “Lose Yourself”, 17 years after it was awarded the Oscar for the best original song.
His question sounded so harmless and clearly was aimed to make Marshall discuss his triumph: “Em, you just blew the fucking roof off the Oscars. How did that feel?”
Marshal looked not happy like he was not the one who made the whole crowd of well-dressed celebrities jump on their feet and sing along with him. But that was not what Marshall remembers about the night. Hard on himself as he always is, he remembers his tec malfunction. That was he explained to the hosts:
I’m gonna tell you why I’m making that face. When I went out there everything was cool. I go through the first verse. And you know, they had the mic pack that you wear clipped onto your belt and then you got the in-ears that go in your ears so you can hear the sound. And I’m rapping and all of a sudden I see between my legs the motherfucking pack swinging. What the fuck?! So I am like this, trying to grab that shit. I don’t know what they showed on TV and what they didn’t. So then I try to stick that bitch in my pocket and I’m like, “Wow, I have no pockets back there. Fuck!” So I’m rapping the lyrics while I’m doing this and then I’m like, “I’ll put it in my front pocket, fuck it!” By that time the song is over and I’m like, “Man, what the fuck”. We rehearsed for that shit, I know the words to “Lose Yourself”, right? But we rehearsed that shit extra extra extra so just so we didn’t fuck that up and then that was the one thing we didn’t plan for and of course, it went wrong and I’m like, “Motherfuck!”
Mr.Porter tried to calm Em down mentioning that nobody really noticed and Eben Britton agreed: “Yeah dude, nobody saw that, you killed it, bro, you motherfucking killed that”.
Marshall can only trust them because apparently he did not see the footage:
I didn’t watch that. Because I’ve got creeped out! I’m like, “I don’t want to see this motherfucking shit, I’ll just get angry”.
