Hopsin is mixing quality rap, high-end cinematography, and big ambitions in another instalment into his “Minor Disturbance” series.
In 2021, Hopsin said in an interview that instead of releasing a fully formed album he was going to release songs that eventually would form a complete project. True to his word, he has been releasing songs sparsely but thoughtfully.
The rapper puts a lot of effort into shooting visuals for his new songs, and in a comment to a new music video for “Arrival” he said:
I hope you all enjoy this Minor Disturbance Intro! There is A LOT of music following up with this, so stay tuned. I’m only gonna give y’all Marvel quality shit from now on.
A similar sentiment Hopsin expressed in his Instagram post about this new drop:
This isn’t the intro to an album. It isn’t a tour promo. The question is….What would creativity look like if you fused Hans Zimmer, Stan Lee, Jordan Peele, Eminem and Akira Toriyama (DBZ creator) together? I don’t have the exact answer, but I want to represent the idea of what that answer could potentially be. I won’t lie, Hip hop has become really boring to me. Everyone’s doing the same stuff, pretending to be overly cool in ways that aren’t true to their nature. We are all just copying everyone to remain “safe”. I’ve been guilty of it too. I don’t wanna be safe anymore. So I’m going to create truly from the inner child within me, without feeling like I have to fit the mould of whatever a rapper “should be”. I’m finally becoming the creator that my mother knew I was destined to be as a child. In a couple of weeks, I’m dropping again. Welcome to the Hop-Sinematic Universe.
As you can see, side by side with his new inspirations, such as film composer Hans Zimmer, late Marvel’s creative leader Stan Lee, director Jordan Peele, and manga artist Akira Toriyama, Eminem stands tall and firm.
Hopsin has never tried to conceal how much inspiration Marshall gave him from the very beginning, and it is unlikely to stop now.
