In his new video “Alone With Me”, Hopsin focuses on mental health and battling intrusive and destructive thoughts. What might be more terrifying for a rapper than find themselves in the middle of the rap battle with Eminem?

At least, this is how many fans have interpreted one of the scenes. Hopsin’s alter ego tortures him throughout the video, diminishing his self-esteem and confidence. The dark-side Hopsin compares him to other rappers and dismisses his chances to succeed. In the scene that resembles the interior of Shelter, the club where 8 Mile rap battles took place. Aggressively, the dark alter ego raps in Hopsin’s face:

Put the mic down, don’t you fight this fight
‘Cause you’re a corny rapper only weird white kids like

This is a subtle and masterful touch that mixes in one poisonous cocktail the terrifying set up of being a B-Rabbit’s antagonist in his final victorious battle and verbal assaults often associated with Eminem.

Do you think that Hopsin intends to evoke the memory of “8 Mile” battles in his audience?
