Marshall asked his fans to send him their homemade videos without saying why. What do the terms and conditions tell us?
First of all, the call on the website specified that background should be simple, black or white. Something easy to edit into the whole video:
Record an original video of yourself singing the hook to “Higher”. Keep it short….30 seconds will do it and please film from the chest up with a simple white or black background.
Terms state that by sending the video the fans grant to Universal Music “a royalty-free, unrestricted, worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive and fully transferable, assignable and sublicensable right and license to use, copy, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, distribute, perform and display such material (in whole or part) and/or to incorporate it in other works in any form, media, or technology now known or later developed”.
This close covers a lot, but most importantly, indicates that fan-made footage can be used for creating a music video. Let’s see how it develops.
