It took its time, but “Guilty Conscience” has finally hit Platinum in the UK — proving that Eminem and Dr. Dre’s twisted storytelling still has fans hooked.
Eminem’s “Guilty Conscience”, featuring Dr. Dre, has officially been certified Platinum by the BPI. “The Slim Shady LP” single, known for its dark humour and back-and-forth moral debates, remains one of the duo’s most memorable collaborations.
The idea for the song came up while Eminem and Dre were at the gym, tossing around concepts. As Eminem recalled in “Angry Blonde”, Dre suggested they take opposite sides in a debate, initially calling it “Night ‘n’ Day”. Inspired, Em went home and started writing immediately.
Despite taking years to reach this milestone, “Guilty Conscience” was a hit in the UK from the start. It climbed to No. 5 on the Official Singles Chart and topped the UK Hip-Hop/R&B Chart, outperforming its success in many other countries. It earned Platinum status in the US back in 2022, and now, over two decades after its release, it finally gets its due in the UK.
