2 October is the day when DeShaun Dupree Holton aka Proof does not get one year older. 13 years after his tragic death, his old friends and D12 bandmates remember his birthday and share their memories of him with the world.
One of the most heartfelt messages belong to Mr. Porter who wrote on Instagram:
The body is temporary energy is forever..we don’t die we go back to what we once were. It took me years to understand that but even in knowledge i can feel like it ain’t enough time or feel that hurt in Adsense of presence and reflection, I wish you could tell me in that sarcastic tone how it’ll be okay or bounce those ideas that become solutions or just help me figure out how to maneuver through these obstacles but I think I get it now. I understand more where you were and what you may have been going through. You will remain forever the most incredible human being I ever met. Love you bro❤️ Happy Earth Birth Day
Bizarre was not that eloquent but shared the same sentiment posting the photos of them both and writing “Happy b day. Dudie”.
Kuniva also left a message that shows how deeply he still feels connected to his friend:
My big brother. My homie. My good friend. You ARE the realest in the physical and spiritual. It’s amazing that I can feel your energy almost the same as when you walked with us. HBD bro. I will forever be grateful for your knowledge. The late night tour bus talks that I fell asleep during because you could kick it for HOURS. Thank you for instilling in me how valuable I am without the worlds validation. It’s not only your birthday but in a way you helped birth my confidence in becoming the BEST MC I can be. I love you always my brother. What you built is forever. #BigProof4Ever #D12Forever
Fatt Father, who shared a stage with D12 in the earlier days of Detroit hip-hop scene, posted the photo of Proof on Instagram:
My brother! Happy Birthday Big Proof! The one dude that would call your house and end up in a deep conversation with whom ever answered the phone (mom, wife, uncle, brother, sister, etc…).
An amazing spirit! #Godbless…
Royce da 5’9″ clearly shares this feeling as he retweeted Fatt Father’s message, honouring the memory of one of the most influential Detroit rappers whose life was interrupted so violently.
