The lead single from Marshall’s upcoming album “The Death of Slim Shady” has been steadily gaining momentum every day since its release last Friday. The estimations show that it will likely land at the Billboard Hot 100 No.2 on its first charting week.
Originally projected to make a strong debut within the Top 10, ‘Houdini’ exceeded all expectations. Its performance has been so impressive that industry experts have had to constantly revise their estimations: Top 10, Top 5, Top 4… And now, it’s set to make an entry in the Top 2.
On June 3, the expectation was that “Houdini” would enter the chart at No.4 with 334 points. Two days later, the predictions now place “Houdini” at No.2 with 368 points. These are remarkable results estimated from the track’s radio airplay audience impressions, sales data, and streaming activity. With this boost, the single made a leap higher, leaving behind another contestant, Tony Richman (“Million Dollar Baby”, 341 points, less than what was predicted two days ago). There is still a gap of 35 points between the second place and the top, held by Post Malone and Morgan Wallen. Their joint “I Had Some Help” is expected to gain 394 points, but at the moment, estimations show that they are likely to bring even more than that, 403 points. Yes, “Houdini” was able to improve its performance by 34 points in three days. But to raise more than that in mere hours left until the cut-off point — this magic trick goes beyond impossible.
Of course, it would be wonderful to see Eminem get his sixth No.1 on Billboard, but No.2 would be a good start nonetheless. The previous time Em landed No. 2 was “Smack That” with Akon in 2006. By the way, “Without Me” has never charted above No.2, which does not diminish its legendary status at all.
Meanwhile, the UK charts show better prospects for the single. Eminem is expected to gain its 11th British No.1 with “Houdini” tomorrow.
So, let’s keep the momentum going. Let’s continue to push, stream, and buy “Houdini”. Our collective efforts can make a difference. Who knows where our support can take it.
