A new promo for MTV “Behind the Music” documentary series features Marshall wearing LL Cool J’s chains and varsity jacket when talking about his admiration for the hip hop icon.
This one-minute-long clip mixes shots from Eminem’s interview with scenes from LL Cool J’s video “I’m Bad”. Marshall recalls:
Since I was a little kid, I always wanted a chain. I was recording with Rick Rubin, and I was like, “Yo, can you ask LL where he got his chains from?” So he had these made and sent them to me. These are the same two chains he’s wearing in the “[I’m] Bad” video. When I saw the “Bad” video, I was like, “What the fuck?!” He had the whole package — the look, the swag, the chain, everything! You know, you just wanted to be LL Cool J. He was like the first rockstar of rap. I’m like, “Yo, I wanted that”. That is what actually made me want to rap.
In the shot, Marshall is wearing exactly the chains in question and the Rock the Bells jacket that LL Cool J sent him not in February 2020.
This is just one more gesture of respect that Eminem always makes an effort to show when he is talking with or about hip hop legends who shaped him as an artist. Just like recently, when he was wearing a t-shirt with Big Daddy Kane’s album cover print at the meeting with Big Daddy Kane.
The clip promotes MTV’s revived its signature music documentary series exclusively on its streaming platform, Paramount+ starting Thursday, July 29, reports Deadline.com. So far, the artists in focus include Jennifer Lopez, LL Cool J, Ricky Martin, Huey Lewis, Busta Rhymes and Fat Joe.
