From the unconditional support from Eminem to working on Kanye’s ranch to a possible collaboration with from Dr. Dre — Conway has become a very well connected artist.
Talking to Bootleg Kev, Conway remembered how he came to Detroit to play his album to Eminem and how much recognition he received from him.
I went to Detroit, I was in Em’s studio with Em, Paul [Rosenberg], Royce [da 5’9] and played him the album front to back. And he fucked with every record. He was like, “This shit is ready to go”. And that’s why he jumped on “Bang”, and Fifty got on “City On the Map”. Even though we lost those records. I played him a tape, there was no critique. Like, “Yo, this shit is fucking amazing”.
The album in question is “God Don’t Make Mistakes”, and it’s incredible that the project so wholeheartedly approved years ago is about to get released only this upcoming Friday, February 25. Both songs Conway mentioned have been released since: “City On the Map” feat. 50 Cent on Griselda’s Shady debut “W.W.C.D.” and “Bang” feat. Eminem as a single in 2019.
In the same interview, Conway also shared how Kanye West took him to Dr. Dre’s house to help him with writing hooks. Conway spent about a week at Ye’s ranch in Wyoming, and while it was, no doubt, a great experience, the Buffalo rapper did not feel at home in a “churchy” and clean atmosphere in Kanye’s studio. However, this collaboration led him to a new connection:
One day I’m over there, recording. Ye wasn’t there. The engineer stopped like, “Yo, I got a text. Ye wants us to come over to Dre’s”. He and Dre were working on some stuff for the album. We got to the Dre house, and I’m just sitting there… It’s mad people in the room. I’m seeing people smoking and drinking and shit, and I’m like, oh, that’s where I needed to be! That’s what I’ve been missing! And Dre stepped off the board, turned around, looked and like, “Oh, okay, I remember you!”. ‘Cause I met him for the first time at the star unveiling for 50 Cent. And he remembered me from that day. That’s bucket list shit for me. Just for Dre to know who I am. That shit just different for me.
This man’s studio ain’t real. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I couldn’t believe I was there. Shout out to Dre. He showed love. There was Snoop’s oldest son, a couple of Dre’s homies. It was just love. We ended up working on some stuff. Hopefully, I can work on more. Dr. Dre is a big inspiration. I was watching that shit, and I was like, now, I get it. When he’s at the board, the shit that you see maybe in the videos… I’m shooting videos, you know, we might, like, pretend… He’s real. He’s really like that. Very into every smallest detail. Genius. It’s just amazing to watch. And the studio that he got set up is just so ill. I couldn’t believe that I was there.
