Recent tension between Snoop Dogg and Eminem did not start yesterday. The snippet of an old audio recording shows Snoop mocking Eminem’s storytelling on one of his most significant songs.
On the record Snoop sounds defensive and petty:
I don’t listen to Eminem records. No disrespect to him but I don’t listen to Eminem records, I’m a gangsta. I’m not talking, as Eminem did, about groupies writing letters and that kind of shit, my shit is around here, it’s gangsta shit.
Snoop than proceeded to mock “Stan”, the record that he apparently knew very well despite claiming not listening to Em’s music. He called the story “bullshit” and sounded aggressively dismissive, maybe because the journalist noticed some similarities in “Stan” and Snoop’s new single he was promoting at the moment. Snoop declared that it was because both tracks were produced by Dr. Dre, however, “Stan” was not. Dre is credited as a director for the video but DJ Mark the 45 King is credited as a producer of the song.
The interview recording has resurfaced just in time to give even more context to Eminem’s recent reference on his new song “Zeus” from “Music to Be Murdered By: Side B”:
Last thing I need is Snoop-doggin’ me
Man, dog, you was like a damn god to me
Man, not really
I had “dog” backwards
