Dr. Dre and his loyal warriors, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar and Mary J. Blige, dominate the LA landscape from a hand-painted mural.
Californian artist Justin Odaffer led a talented crew in transferring the already familiar image onto a gigantic wall. He posted some work-in-progress photos and videos to demonstrate their impressive work that blurs the line between art and advertising.
Painter from Chicago Darius Dennis was one of the crew, and his Instagram post is a poetic love confession to both his vocation and the subjects he brought to life in LA:
“Every morning when I wake up,
uh, money on my mind
Good times and get caked up,
uh, sunshine coming through my blinds
I’m living but, really though,
it’s never enough
Ten million, that’s a must”
-The Recipe, @drdre @kendricklamar @mrtwinsisterWhat a way to kick off 2022. This wall is appropriately nicknamed “the big one”. 12,000 sq feet of phthalo blue, five large portraits, and all the tacos in the 2nd largest city in the nation. Humbled to be a wall dog with a group of so many talented hustlers.
This trip I was privileged to paint a 12ft tall portrait of rap icon/superstar @snoopdogg . I road the left side of the wall the entire trip also painting Mary Js arm, frills and hella blue strips along the way (@poonger).
Shout out to our fearless leaders @justinodaffer and @nickontos. Forever grateful to see this team burn the wall all the way to the ground. Tons of serendipitous moments and smiles on this trip.
Lots of love for LA. 🖤
Judging by one of these pictures, Aftermath commissioned the hand-painted Super Bowl Halftime Show advert from Colossal Media, the company co-founded by Odaffer. This project will be certainly one to remember.
