Among all artists across all genres, it is the most expensive to be an Eminem fan. You spend $3000 against $250 that Cardi B fans spend.
The new study was published by money.co.uk, a British financial instruments comparison service. The aim was to compare the average spendings involved in supporting an artist. There is nothing over the top, no exclusive, one of a kind merch, or super rare vintage first press vinyl albums. The most extravagant item in a hypothetical Super Fan Starter Pack combined to calculate the cost of being a fan is an authentically autographed item for the artist listed on eBay. Other positions on the Super Fan Starter Pack for each music act included in the study are as follows:
- The average download price of an album by the artist on iTunes
- The average price across the artist’s cheapest official merchandise products
- The average gig ticket price for the artist
- The price of an authentically autographed item for the artist listed on eBay
- The cost of the cheapest 12” vinyl album by that artist (if available)
Rappers appear to be the most costly for fans. Eminem, Travis Scott, Drake, Kanye West and Kendrick Lamar are the top five most expensive acts to support. Jay-Z follows them closely, and the first pop act, Olivia Rodrig, appears only at No.7.
What sets these five ahead of everyone else is their gig ticket prices and the price of signed merchandise. Jay-Z also charges the most for his official merchandise, signed or not.
The cheapest one to follow is Flo Rida, study finds. For a modest price of $160, his fans can enjoy everything he has to offer.
