The Atlanta rapper says he and Eminem are just getting started.
In a recent interview with Elliott Wilson, JID revisited the story behind “Animal Pt. 2”, his latest collaboration with Eminem. Fans have been asking why it did not make his pre-album mixtape, but the real takeaway might be the bond the two rappers built in the process. JID tells the same story again: Eminem did not care about going on the album, did not care about making a song safe for charts:
W“e spoke about it. Sent him the verse, sent him a 16. Bro sent it back. I was like, ‘Yo, let’s make it a song. Let’s chop it up’. He’s like, ‘No, I want to just get off. I just want to rap’. Cool. Let’s rap then”.
For JID, that uncompromising focus on the verse was part of what made the experience special:
“I love that competitive spirit in anybody who does music. And I’m sure we’re going to do more music ‘cause we got a good rapport, and he’s one of the greatest. Along with other OGs and stuff, I want to work with”, he said.
Eminem gave him full freedom with the track, caring only about laying down exactly what he wanted to say:
“It’s not even about me. He just wanted to get his rocks off. That’s cool as hell, bro. He’s not tripping on nothing. He just wants to do music. He wants to rap with people that he fucks with. I assume I’m somebody he fucks with. So, he gave me that moment”.
JID even found time to shout out to the Eminem fandom, not being annoyed with constantly questioning his decision about the “Animal Pt. 1” placement, but respecting how much the fans care:
“His fans probably couldn’t understand it, but I respect them, too, ‘cause the way they hone in is beautiful”.
JID sounds confident they’ll team up again, and fans will be glad to hear more. The Atlanta rapper lights a fire in Eminem, and their collabs always get everyone talking.
