The atmosphere couldn’t be better to watch ‘8 Mile.’ On Saturday, May 30, the 2002 movie starring Eminem, Kim Basinger, and the late Brittany Murphy will be shown inside the parking garage where they shot part of the rap competition scenes for the movie.
The historic Michigan Theater located at 220 Bagley Ave. in Detroit opened in 1926. It closed in 1970 and reopened as a concert venue from 1973 to 1976. It became a parking garage in 1978 which is still what it is used for today. There are also 13 floors of office space with space available to lease. A new developer bought the theater property last year.
Doors open to see the movie at 7pm on May 30. It starts 9pm. It is free, but bring your own chair and you must be 18 or older to attend the R rated flick. There will be food available to purchase from Niki’s Fresh Express.
