In December 2017, Complex presented a series of highly stylised photos, an interview, and a video of Eminem as their cover story. Not all of those photos have seen the light of the day.

A video, titled “Eminem On How Jay Z Inspires Him, Trump Infuriates Him, and the Making of ‘Revival’” is still available on the Complex website, together with an interview intro:

On the heels of the release of his latest album ‘Revival,’ Eminem sits down for an honest discussion on his place in hip-hop today. From his beef with Donald Trump and criticism from rappers like Vince Staples to how Jay Z’s ‘4:44’ inspired him and why he’ll never be able to top the success of ‘The Marshall Mathers LP,’ the Detroit rap god pulls no punches.

The story itself, titled “Rhymes and Punches,” was crafted by Marc Ecko, the founder of Complex. Meanwhile, Tim Saccenti, a director and photographer, collaborated on the visuals.

It has been over five years since the issue was published, but this photoshoot remains unmistakably recognisable and, it appears, plentiful.

There was a leak from the same photoshoot a couple of years ago, and now, again, three new photos in heavy purple are wooing Eminem fans all over the Internet. They remind fans that the “Revival” era was cut short and pushed Marshall right to raw and angry “Kamikaze” before the fans could enjoy that period in full.
