When ‘Stan’ dropped in 2000 it became one of Eminem’s most enduring hits. There’s a big difference, however, between a great track and one with real cultural impact. ‘Stan’ was both and the word quickly went into common use. It may have taken 17 years but the word has gained official recognition, Eminem credits and all.

Marshall posted a call on his social media inviting his fans to get in touch. Adorned with visuals from a “Stan” video it also directly quotes the lyrics from that song:

“Dear Stan, I meant to write you sooner, but I just been busy” text me, ill hit you back – ☎️ 313-666-7440 #MMLP20 #DearSlim https://my.community.com/eminem

No, it is not his personal mobile number. And it is also geographically selective, so fans from overseas will have to hold back and sign up to Eminem’s mail list. North American fans will get this response:

It seems like Eminem and his team have turned to this my.community service that some other celebrities like Ashton Kutcher, Jennifer Lopez, Kerry Washington and Diddy tried to use earlier.

So far the service has not facilitated any meaningful relationship between celebrities and their followers but we sure will be happy to see Eminem breaking this pattern.

At least, there is a clear goal of this promo action, as stated on his MMLP20 promo page: Marshall’s team is going to use these texts to inform subscribers about new developments with MMLP20 campaign.
