When asked about a collaboration that caught him off guard, Cordae did not hesitate — Eminem was the unexpected cosign that took him by surprise.
This week on “We Playin’ Spades”, Cordae sat down with Courtney Bee and Nick Cannon to talk about fatherhood, his relentless work ethic, and his pride in never paying for a feature. While discussing collaborations, he also revealed a dream that became a reality — working with Eminem.
That was definitely surprising. [Eminem] was showing me a bunch of love. That was super dope, getting that cosign. He reached out. I had a phone conversation with him, and he was, like, “Yo, I think you’re dope. I want you on the song. We got to work. If you got something that you want me on — send it to me. I’ll send you some shit, too”. That’s how that ended up happening.
The connection ultimately led to two collaborations: Eminem’s “Killer (Remix)” featuring Cordae and Jack Harlow, and Cordae’s “Parables (Remix)” featuring Eminem. For Cordae, getting a direct cosign from one of hip hop’s greats was a moment he will not forget. However, as he told earlier in another interview, Cordae admitted he took nearly a year to send Em a track:
That was June 2020, and I didn’t even send him a song until April 2021. I was like, “Let me just get this verse out of bro”. I sent him “Parables”, and boom, that’s how it came about.
