The young rapper was filming when he got a call from Eminem. So this historic moment has been preserved, and now we can also see it and hear the conversation. How does it feel when En calls you “super talented”?

Majestic Moment

MAJ had a solid success as a YouTuber, posting skits and reaction videos, when he started taking music seriously. After releasing several EPs and mixtapes, he made a deal with Def Jam, while Paul Rosenberg was still working there. This connection later proved to be vital. It is because of Paul, who slid MAJ’s record to Eminem, that the young rapper ended up on “Music to Be Murdered By – Side B”.

The artist explained previously that he recorded a hook for “These Demons” without knowing whose song it was. The only thing he had was an anonymised reference tape.

In the video posted on MAJ’s TikTok account, we can see him taking a call and jumping on his feet on hearing the iconic “Hey, it’s Paul. I have Marshall on the phone with you”. He was pacing before finally relaxing into the conversation he would never forget.

You are fucking supertalented, bro”, Eminem said to a surprised rapper. MAJ wanted to know which of his songs Em had heard first, and while Eminem could not remember the title, he did not forget the music, like a guitar solo at the end or a beat. “Who’s doing some of your beats?!

Paul said he played MAJ’s EP to Eminem when he was looking for someone to put on a song, and Marshall was really impressed with the young rapper. “Your melodies are fucking crazy, man!

Down to Business

However, it was not just an exhange of pleasantries. Marshall had a goal. In fact, he had a clear vision of how the hook had to sound to fit into the wider picture.

“I love what you did. I just wonder if we can tweak it a little bit”, Marshall was direct. Also, he had an example to bring up, to help the artist understand what Em was looking for. “In a sense, like how White Gold did his hook, he was chopping it. He kind of swung like that. I like the change of phrase you did, the shit is dope. Just put a little swag on it right there. Other than that, the shit is crazy”. MAJ understood the assignment: make his part jumpier, add more urgency to the flow.

Before the Fame Comes

Eminem did not finish the conversation on that note; he returned to praising MAJ and saying he saw a bright future ahead for a young artist. “I wanna be able to say that I was on you early. Because you’re going to blow up”, Marshall said to MAJ.

Years have passed, and Eminem’s prophecy has not yet come true. MAJ has released several projects, started and deleted more YouTube channels. He is reinventing himself, and he is looking for the form of artistic expression that is authentic to him. Sometimes, having raw, undeniable talent is not enough to achieve success. Some might say he needs good luck; others would remind him that good luck is the result of hard work and patience. In fact, Eminem’s rise to prominence was a long and bumpy road. Likewise, the story of MAJ is not over; it is unfolding before our eyes. And the chapter with Eminem is already there.
