John Cena compares himself to Dr. Dre and Idris Elba to Eminem in the new Heads of State trailer — and the music cue seals the moment.

The newly dropped trailer for Heads of State, an upcoming action-comedy starring John Cena and Idris Elba, features explosions, espionage — and one unmistakable hip hop moment. In a surprise flex, the trailer leans on “What’s the Difference” by Dr. Dre featuring Eminem and Xzibit, giving Shady fans a reason to hit replay.

The film follows Cena as the US President and Elba as the UK Prime Minister. When a diplomatic mission spirals into a full-blown survival scenario, the two world leaders are forced to work together — with no backup but their banter. In one standout exchange, Cena’s character says, “It’s like I’m Dr. Dre and you’re Eminem”, to which Elba replies, “I’m Eminem?!” That is the cue for “What’s the Difference” to drop in, setting the mood.

It is not just a throwaway reference. The song underscores the movie’s central theme: uneasy alliances, grudging respect, and unpredictable chemistry. Eminem’s verse on the track, where he acknowledges Dre as both mentor and equal, mirrors the relationship between the two fictional leaders.

This is not the first time Eminem’s music has amplified a cinematic moment, but seeing “What’s the Difference” used in a major trailer like this is a reminder of the cultural weight Shady’s legacy carries. It’s a 2001 joint that still goes hard enough to headline a blockbuster.

Directed by Ilya Naishuller (“Nobody”), and written by Harrison Query, Josh Appelbaum, and André Nemec, “Heads of State” also stars Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Jack Quaid, and Carla Gugino. Cena and Elba don double-duty as stars and producers. But Eminem? He just drops in for 16 bars and leaves the biggest impression.

“Heads of State” premieres July 2, 2025, on Prime Video. In the meantime, expect “What’s the Difference” to start popping up in playlists again.
