Recently, Russ spent some time chatting with Royce da 5’9 over Instagram live. Between discussing different ways to integrate the creative process into life, working under the influence, and the state of the culture, Russ mentioned how fascinated he was with Eminem’s music.

Eminem’s level of perfection in matching the beat is unparalleled and unusual to see, but even more impressive to Russ was to learn that it was not what the world appreciated in Marshall’s music:

When you really listen to Eminem, it sounds like you downloaded his vocals with the beat. Like there was no other flow or tone or pocket that was as tailor-made to the beat was what he was doing. He sounded like a hi-hat. But then the melody and the tone behind it were so intentionally perfect. It was just like robotic, but it was insane. It was so nuts to me.
I heard what Eminem said about “Infinite”, like, “Infinite was me trying to sound like AZ. And then I stopped giving a fuck, and that’s when people started giving a fuck”. I always resonated with that too. As soon as I stopped giving a fuck that’s when y’all started giving a fuck. And I’m like, “Damn, is that what it takes for you?” That’s gotta be strange to be like “Fuck y’all”, and that’s when the world is like, “I love you!”.
