Eminem accepts the Best Video of the Year award at the 2002 MTV Video Music Awards

Eminem’s name is all over Billboard’s latest list of hip hop awards top moments, and for good reason. From breaking records at the MTV VMAs to making Oscar history, Slim Shady has racked up achievements that put him in a league of his own.

Back in 2000, “The Real Slim Shady” became the first rap song to win Video of the Year at the MTV Video Music Awards. Later, in 2002, “The Eminem Show” took home Album of the Year at the Billboard Music Awards — the first time a rap album won that honour.

And, of course, who could forget March 23, 2003? That was the night “Lose Yourself” became the first rap song to win an Oscar for Best Original Song. Eminem was not even there to accept the award, but his co-writer Luis Resto made sure to give him his flowers, calling him a “good man” with “symphonies in his head”.

More recently, Marshall added Emmy winner to his list of accomplishments when the Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show (featuring Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, Mary J. Blige, and 50 Cent) became the first halftime performance to win a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Variety Special.

With decades of industry-shaping success behind him, Eminem’s legacy in hip hop — and beyond — is undeniable. What record will he break next?
