The 2025 Grammys are almost here, and everyone is guessing who will take the rap crown.
The Grammy buzz is real, and music fans are all in. Will Eminem’s “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce)” earn him another trophy, or will Kendrick Lamar sweep the night with his seven nominations? Let’s break it down.
Platforms like Rap.TV are betting big on Eminem. He already has 15 Grammys under his belt, and his latest album is up for three awards, including Best Rap Album and Best Rap Performance for his track “Houdini”. This is their prediction:
Eminem Wins the Grammy for Best Rap Album
This is a prediction that Eminem fans will champion and Future and Metro Boomin fans will hate. We Don’t Trust You and The Death Of Slim Shady are both vying for Best Rap Album at the upcoming Grammys. However, the Recording Academy tends to favor legacy artists with proven track records, and Eminem, with 15 Grammy wins to his name, is one of the most decorated rappers in Grammy history.
You may recall Killer Mike’s controversial sweep of the rap category last year, which many fans felt was a snub towards Travis Scott and Utopia. The Grammys have a precedent of ignoring trap-heavy albums regardless of their cultural impact and significance.
But not everyone is convinced. GrammyGuru, known for their inside scoop, got their hand on some leaked blind ballots. The account paints a different picture, saying Eminem’s album ranked fourth for Best Rap Album afterDoechii’s “Alligator Bites Never Heal”, Future & Metro Boomin’s “WE DON’T TRUST YOU”, and Common & Pete Rock’s “The Auditorium Vol. 1”.
Current ranked likelihood of winning Best Rap Album at this year's #GRAMMYs, according to our experts:
1. Doechii – Alligator Bites Never Heal
2. Future & Metro Boomin – WE DON'T TRUST YOU
3. Common & Pete Rock – The Auditorium Vol. 1
4. Eminem – The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup De… pic.twitter.com/1JRiXtfPmb— The Grammy Guru (Commentary) (@TheGrammyGuru) January 21, 2025
Then there is Kendrick Lamar. His “Not Like Us” track is up for five major awards, including Song and Record of the Year. Many think he will clean up, following in the footsteps of Childish Gambino’s “This Is America”, which made Grammy history back in 2019. Even Eminem is rooting for Kendrick. In a Shade45 interview, he called Kendrick the favourite, saying, “Kendrick is gonna sweep that shit. He’s going to, and he should”.
Meanwhile, Kendrick’s latest album, “GNX”, is not in the running this year. It missed the Grammy deadline so that it will compete in 2026. That means Kendrick will not directly face Eminem in the Best Rap Album race, only being a featured guest on Future and Metro Boomin’s “We Don’t Trust You”.
So, who is walking away with the gold? The predictions are all over the place, but fans will not have to wait much longer to find out. The 2025 Grammy Awards air live on February 2 from the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. Tune in to see if Eminem adds another trophy to his collection or if Kendrick steals the show!
