A legendary West Coast anthem, Dr. Dre’s iconic track “Nuthin’ But a G Thang,” featuring the one and only Snoop Dogg, has obtained Gold status in the UK.

Released as the lead single from Dr. Dre’s groundbreaking album “The Chronic” (1992), “Nuthin’ But a G Thang” took the music world by storm. It peaked at No.2 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the album’s highest-charting single.

This isn’t the first time “Nuthin’ But a G Thang” has been recognized for its impact. It was previously certified Silver in the UK in 2021, signifying over 200,000 units sold since 2005. Now, with Gold certification, that number jumps to over 400,000 units moved, with as many sold in three years as in the previous 16.

This Gold certification in the UK shows the song’s popularity even outside the US. It joins its impressive Platinum status in the US (over 1.3 million units sold).

The song’s origin story adds another layer to its legend. Dr. Dre discovered Snoop Dogg through a mixtape brought by Warren G while Snoop was in prison. Impressed by his talent, Dre crafted the song and had Snoop record his vocals over the phone – you can even hear jail sounds in the background of the original version.

“Nuthin’ But a G Thang” is more than just a hit song – it’s a landmark track that shaped West Coast hip hop and continues to influence artists today.
