Eminem took home two American Music Awards this year — Favourite Male Hip Hop Artist and Favourite Hip Hop Album for “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)” — his first AMA win in 15 years. And it was all thanks to the fans.
In the artist category, he came out ahead of Drake, Future, Kendrick Lamar, and Tyler, The Creator. His album TDOSS beat out heavy hitters like Future & Metro Boomin’s “We Don’t Trust You”, Gunna’s “One of Wun”, Kendrick’s “GNX”, and Tyler’s “Chromakopia”.
While Eminem led the night in those two categories, Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” still claimed Favourite Hip Hop Song — a win that continues his hot streak, which Em has acknowledged, predicting his Grammy sweep.
Still, the people have spoken — and they picked Slim Shady as their favourite. After more than two decades in the game, Em remains a fan favourite, no matter the trends.
And Marshall is grateful. Just watch his acceptance speech recorded for a ceremony:
