Christopher Reid aka Kid from a highly popular in the late 1980s and early 1990s New Your hip hop duo has a couple of stories to tell about Eminem.
Not like he has ever been close to the Detroit rapper or even moved in the same circles, but Kid’n Play is undoubtedly one of Em’s inspirations. During his Abu Dhabi show in 2019, Marshall was wearing a t-shirt with their 1988’s album “2 Hype” print. This is Eminem’s way to educate his audience and expose them to some classic hip hop influences that the younger generation might miss.
When Kid saw it on the Internet, he had nothing but appreciation for this gesture. He talked about that on VladTV:
When I saw Eminem with our t-shirt on – that’s love. I remember back in the days before he came out, I ran into Dr. Dre and Dre told me he was coming out. He said to me, “Yo, I’ve got a white boy”. And all I’m thinking is, if this dude’s got a white boy, this white boy must be fucking spazzing. And then three weeks later: “Hi, my name is”. No, that’s love, and I think real true hip-hoppers and artists, we feel that way. So yeah, if he’s giving us some shine… But it was just weird seeing it. I was just, like, wow. I was like, “this dude likes Kid’n Play? Hey, alright. Mama, I made it!”
