2 Chainz had a gem of a track sitting in the vault — until Eminem jumped on it and turned it into something wild.
In a recent interview with Complex, 2 Chainz revealed that he originally produced the track himself.
He explained: “There is is only two things a person could say: that’s yes or no. And when I asked him to get on it, he said “yes” and the rest is history. Em did his part, but I did my part”,. “Em came in and added some crazy drums on his part. But yeah, that was fun”.
Once Em got on board, things escalated. “He lost his mind on that, actually”, said The Alchemist, who was in on the conversation. But even with Em going off, 2 Chainz did not feel the need to tweak his verse: “I’m so confident it’s like, ‘Here go my verse’ and I’m done. ‘Do you, Mr. Eminem, because I already know how you get down’. And still ain’t going to change my verse. And so I’m glad it came out from him too”.
The track sat in limbo for a while, as 2 Chainz debated where to place it: “They would ask me, ‘When you going to put this song out?’. Sometimes I sit on songs too long, just like sometimes I wait to wear clothes”. But when “The Death of Slim Shady” came around, everything clicked: “It just made sense for it just to come out because people like you were able to hear it and have your opinion on it”, says 2 Chainz.
Now that the song is out, fans are getting the chance to hear just how wild it got when these two teamed up. However, the track does not have enough love, having accumulated only 5 million plays since “The Death of Slim Shady: Mourner’s Edition” came out. Time to change this number.
