Former WWE superstar John Cena, known for his rap persona “The Doctor of Thuganomics,” recently shared his Mount Rushmore of rappers on the Club Shay Shay podcast.
When asked to name four legendary rappers who would make it to his top list, Cena didn’t hesitate to choose Jay-Z, Eminem, Nas, and Rakim. He admitted that his choices would likely spark debate but insisted that everyone has their own preferences and biases:
So for me, Jay-Z, Eminem, Nas, and Rakim. Man, Rakim’s voice. Everyone has their bias. I know that list is obviously going to incite riots. We all have our bias. We all have our favourites. That’s what makes music special.
Cena grew up listening to East Coast hip hop and was inspired by the lyrical skills of these legends. He even based his rapper persona on them.
While Cena’s rapping career took a backseat, his album “You Can’t See Me” showed off his skills and helped make him even more popular. The album has eventually gone Platinum, a feat not every rapper can achieve.
