The founding father and architect of hip hop Big Daddy Kane heard about his impact on Eminem’s style from Proof. But it took Big Daddy hearing Eminem analysing his rhymes back at him to really grasp it.
The hip hop pioneer revealed that when answering a question on the recent episode of People’s Party With Talib Kweli:
Honestly, I didn’t recognise it until I spoke to Proof. Rest in peace, Proof. Eminem has a unique style, but I didn’t really see how it resembled mine. If anything, flow-wise, it resembled more Busta. It just my opinion. We did that interview [with Eminem] just recently. He was talking to me about my rhymes, and I was sitting there like, “Okay, okay, I get it now”. Em is a beautiful rubber man. Because nothing goes over his head. He’s a student of the game who studies it like a scientist. Pouring little drops and stuff… He studies it thoroughly. It was a good conversation we had. He is real deep into hip hop.
Big Daddy Kane posted a photo with Eminem back in February, after recording an interview with him. The interview that every Eminem fan anticipates eagerly. There are no certain signs of when it can be released. It might be, however, that it was not a standalone conversation, but part of “Did I Ever Tell You The One About… Big Daddy Kane” podcast series that focuses on his career and is recorded by Kane himself as well as those who know him; family, friends and other artists who he inspired. The episode 1 is scheduler on April 26:
