Producer Scott Storch opened up about his first meeting with Dr. Dre, the nerve-wracking audition that changed his life, and how it all led to his introduction to Eminem.

Sometimes, a single moment can change everything. For legendary producer Scott Storch, that moment came when a chance meeting with Dr. Dre in Los Angeles introduced him to the world of hip hop royalty and to Eminem.

Appearing on “The Joe Rogan Experience”, Storch recalled walking into the studio with his nerves running wild. Dre asked him to show his piano skills, and despite Storch’s doubts, the audition went better than he expected. Storch shared:

I walk into a room. He sits me down and says, “I heard you’re good at the keys”. I start playing, and he’s just quiet and listening. I’m thinking, “Nothing’s coming out of this; I’m going home sad today”. But then he leaves, and a guy comes back and says, “Dre wants you to stay here for a long time. We’ll get you a hotel and here’s the money”.

The whole situation felt unprecedented to a young producer:

I meet up with Dre. He was telling me all kinds of cool shit. He accepted me into his world. It was such a surreal [experience].

From that point on, Storch was immersed in Dr. Dre’s world, with Dre even confiding in him about a “talented white boy” rapper he believed in. That white boy, of course, was Eminem. Storch soon found himself helping Dre on one of Eminem’s early tack:

[Dr. Dre] was telling me, “I got this rapper who is really talented. I believe in him. He’s a white boy”, and this and that, and in walks Eminem. And he [Dr. Dre] let me finish up some record that he was doing with him, one of Em’s first releases, “Just The Two Of Us”.

The rest, as they say, is history. That meeting marked the beginning of a career that would see Storch working on some of the most iconic hip hop tracks of all time. From “nervous as hell” to legendary producer, Storch’s story shows the magic that can happen when talent meets opportunity.
