Legendary Local 4 anchor Devin Scillian is retiring after 30 years, and Detroit’s biggest stars — Eminem included — are paying tribute.
After three decades at Local 4 News, anchor Devin Scillian announced his retirement, and the city of Detroit is showing its love — including from one of its most famous sons. Eminem, performing in Saudi Arabia at the time, took a moment to send his congratulations all the way from the Middle East.
Devin, what’s up, bro? I’m out here in Saudi Arabia right now doing a show. Just wanted to check in, say congrats on the 30 years. Man, that’s crazy,” Eminem said in a video message. “We’re definitely gonna miss you, and you’ve done so much for the city of Detroit. So, from me and on behalf of the whole city, we love you, bro. We’re gonna miss you.
Eminem’s appreciation comes after Scillian’s unexpected cameo in “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce)” album. Devin Scillian and co-anchor Kimberly Gill lent their voices to a satirical interlude, “Breaking News”, reporting chaos sparked by Eminem’s attempt to “cancel himself”.
The heartfelt send-off did not stop with Eminem. Fellow Detroit icons, including Jared Goff, Barry Sanders, Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Big Sean, and more, also paid tribute to Scillian’s legendary career.
Scillian’s decades of dedication to storytelling and the community will not be forgotten as he steps away from the anchor desk.
