A year ago today, July 12, Eminem released his 12th studio album, “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)”. An album that marked the official end of his wild alter ego and kicked off a new era.

TDOSS became his 11th album to debut at No.1 on the Billboard 200. With 281,000 units in its first week, it knocked Taylor Swift’s “The Tortured Poets Department” off the top after 12 weeks. It tied Em with Barbra Streisand, Kanye West, and Bruce Springsteen for the fifth-most US No.1 albums ever.

The album also debuted at No.1 in the UK, staying there for three straight weeks, and topped charts in 14 other countries, including Australia and the Netherlands.

Not all reviews were glowing: critics were split, and it holds the lowest Metacritic score in Eminem’s catalogue. But fans showed up. The album racked up 1.7 billion Spotify streams in under a year, outpacing “Music to Be Murdered By”. All of its singles crossed 100 million streams, with “Houdini” leading at over 650 million.

The album earned Eminem his 8th Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album (it lost to Doechii) and won Favourite Hip Hop Album at the 2025 American Music Awards.

A year later, “The Death of Slim Shady” has proven that even in the grave, Slim still makes noise. And Marshall? Still as sharp as ever, living his best life with new projects, new collabs, and a new generation welcome in his big, loving family.
